Newport – Several People Representing Northeast Kingdom Businesses Share Tariff Concerns with US Sen Peter Welch

NEWPORT — Several people representing Northeast Kingdom businesses shared their concerns about the impacts of tariffs on Canada with U.S. Sen. Peter Welch and a member of the Canadian Parliament at the East Side Restaurant on Tuesday. The senator’s office convened the round table sharing opportunity to give businesspeople the chance to provide specific tariff challenges and to underscore a sense of alliance with our neighbors north of the border. Member of Canadian Parliament for Compton-Stanstead Marie-Claude Bibeau agreed with Sen. Welch’s assertion of cross-border friendship and went beyond that to call Canadians and Americans in border regions family. “We’re neighbors, we’re friends, we’re family,” she said.
