Newport police arrested Barry English, 38, of Nashua
Newport police arrested Barry English, 38, of Nashua, N.H. and charged him with robbing the Passumpsic Bank In Newport Monday morning. According to Newport Police Chief Travis Bingham, police responded to the report of a robbery at the bank branch at 1 Gardner St. at about 9:42 a.m. Bank staff told the responding officers that the suspect walked up to the bank teller and passed a note demanding large bills. The suspect verbally threatened staff with a firearm; however, the firearm was not brandished. Police say English left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and was seen leaving in a black BMW sedan with New Hampshire license plates. On Monday afternoon, New Hampshire State Police located the suspect’s vehicle on Route I-93. Police say English gave chase before he was stopped in Plymouth, New Hampshire and taken into custody. He was charged with robbery and assault. Police thanked the public who provided helpful tips.
