Newport has a new mayor, and it’s Beth Barnes. Barnes won her position as Newport City’s new mayor, with 230 votes.  According to the Newport Dispatch, Roderick Owens received just 76 votes less than Barnes.  During her campaign, Barnes has stressed the importance of keeping Lake Memphremagog clean and safe.  Barnes says she will help promote Newport as a place to celebrate and recreate.  Newport City Council members elected to the two open seats were Chris Vashon, and A. Carter Fineganan. In Lyndonville Kermit Fisher outdistanced Bruce James by 50 votes for a seat on the selectboard.
