More than five years after his crimes, the Vermont man behind a high-profile kidnapping
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – More than five years after his crimes, the Vermont man behind a high-profile kidnapping and sexual assault case has learned his sentence. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Everett Simpson left a Bradford drug treatment facility in January 2019, stole a van and kidnapped a New Hampshire mom and her son from the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester. Then, they say he raped her in a White River Junction hotel before stealing her car. Simpson was eventually arrested in a third stolen car in Pennsylvania. A jury convicted the 46-year-old from St. Johnsbury last spring. Simpson was sentenced on Monday to 25 years in federal prison.
