WATERFORD — Unauthorized OHRV traffic is causing a stir in this Northeast Kingdom community. During the Select Board meeting on Tuesday, residents and board members discussed the issue of OHRVs traveling along town roads in defiance of a municipal ordinance. The ordinance prohibits OHRV travel on all roads maintained and plowed by the town for motor vehicle traffic, but does allow OHRV use on unmaintained, unplowed Class IV roads. Select Board Chair Gary Allard agreed that the law had been ignored by some residents. “We have an ordinance: No ATVs on the roads in Waterford. [But] we all see them on the roads in Waterford,” he said. Some in attendance on Tuesday claimed that illegal OHRV traffic had damaged roads and properties, and those responsible had not been held accountable.
