Man charged with killing his live-in girlfriend in 2018 then fleeing to Jamaica
A man charged with killing his live-in girlfriend in 2018 then fleeing to Jamaica where he evaded authorities for nearly two years has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Leroy Headley appeared in court Friday for a change of plea hearing. He’d originally pleaded not guilty in connection with the shooting death of Anako “Annette” Lumumba in the South Burlington home they shared with their two children. Headley apologized in court, saying he was “deeply and truly sorry.” Authorities say after the May 2018 killing, Headley fled to Jamaica and wasn’t arrested until 2020.
