Lyndon Institute leases the land where its outdoor track
LYNDON — Lyndon Institute leases the land where its outdoor track, football field, and dance program are located. That could change. Headmaster Brian Bloomfield approached the Select Board on Monday about LI taking ownership of the 5.5-acre municipal property at the corner of College and Center Street. LI wants to improve the site, Bloomfield said, “[but] it’s not prudent for LI to work with fundraising and investing millions of dollars into property that we don’t own.” The Bob Heath Track and Robert K. Lewis Field are located on the former town militia training grounds, and the dance program occupies the historic Lyndon Center Town House. According to Bloomfield, LI wants to replace the track, weatherize the townhouse, and explore the possibility of field lights as part of the private high school’s upcoming 160th-anniversary capital campaign.
