Local advocate for homeless persons is requesting Select Board permission
LITTLETON — As the homeless encampment behind Littleton Water and Light faces removal, a local advocate for homeless persons is requesting Select Board permission for a new encampment on municipal property adjacent the wastewater treatment plant. After listening to the proposal at their meeting on Monday, however, board members tabled the request until a resolution is reached regarding a new lawsuit that has been filed against the town, stemming from voter approval of a March town meeting warrant article banning overnight camping on town-owned property unless authorized by the Select Board. Requesting a new temporary encampment for six months is Sonja Mejia Rodriguez, founder of the nonprofit Artisans With A Mission, which has a mission to develop awareness and funding for a homeless center that provides training for transition into the community.
