Littleton Approves Use of Vehicle Boot to Enforce Parking Violations and Unpaid Tickets

LITTLETON—To crack down on parking violations and unregistered and uninspected vehicles, the Select Board on Monday approved several police department requests, including a new “boot” to immobilize parked cars whose owners have racked up unpaid parking tickets. The board voted 5-0 to amend Littleton’s traffic regulation ordinance to allow using an immobilizer for parking enforcement. Several Littleton drivers with 10 or more unpaid parking tickets are the catalysts for the boot, a device that renders a vehicle undrivable by attaching a steel clamp to one of its wheels.
