Homeless Encampment Cleared from Bay Street Riverside in St Johnsbury
ST. JOHNSBURY — A clean-up crew removed all evidence of a homeless encampment from a patch of riverside land along Bay Street on Thursday. What had been a noticeable field of debris with litter and materials related to habitation is now bare ground and posted No Trespassing signs. The St. Johnsbury Police Department, the St. Johnsbury Department of Public Works, Northeast Kingdom Community Action (NEKCA) and the Community Justice Center, contributed to the effort of clearing the site. Part of that effort meant displacing a couple and their dog, who had been living there on and off since last summer.
