Fire destroyed a home on Sutton Road on Tuesday
WHEELOCK — Fire destroyed a home on Sutton Road on Tuesday. Firefighters from multiple towns battled the blaze throughout the afternoon at the home of Peter Emerson. Emerson was not at home at the time of the fire, which was reported just before 2 p.m., but one of his sons was; he exited the home safely. Sheffield-Wheelock Fire Chief Shane Lanpher said the fire is not considered suspicious and he wouldn’t be calling for a fire investigator. He said Emerson’s thought was that the fire was caused by a basement woodstove issue. Assisting the firefighters from Sheffield-Wheelock were departments from East and West Burke, Lyndon, Sutton, Glover, Danville and Orleans. Just after 6 p.m. all departments had cleared the scene except for members of the Sheffield-Wheelock department who planned to be there awhile to make sure there were no flare-ups.
