fforts to create outdoor learning spaces are underway

WHITEFIELD — Efforts to create outdoor learning spaces are underway. White Mountains Regional High School is building three platforms and a pavilion on the 400-acre campus. Those facilities would allow teachers to take their classes outdoors for enhanced learning opportunities. Co-principal Mike Curtis told the school board on Dec. 19 that, “We believe that learning in a dynamic setting can significantly enrich student engagement. By developing outdoor classrooms, we can provide experiential learning opportunities that cater to various learning styles.” Curtis said the textbook-and-four-walls approach to learning has its limits. Curtis said that through the outdoor learning spaces and off-campus lessons, WMRHS can provide more engaging and enriching forms of instruction.
