Despite protests, Cobleigh Library hosted a Drag Story Hour on Saturday

LYNDON — Despite protests, Cobleigh Library hosted a Drag Story Hour on Saturday. More than 70 attended the 90-minute event, which featured drag queens reading stories to children. The story hour had faced pushback from critics who said it was tantamount to child abuse and pedophilia. However, families who went on Saturday said it was good fun with a positive message. Library trustees refused calls to cancel the event, including nine made through the library’s formal Request For Reconsideration process, deciding that opponents’ claims were unfounded. The drag queens dressed in sparkly gowns, wore makeup and wigs, and read a half-dozen books.
