Country estate of John Wingate Weeks on Prospect Mountain built more than a century ago

After several years of deferred maintenance, Weeks State Park in Lancaster, the country estate of John Wingate Weeks on Prospect Mountain built more than a century ago, is set to undergo a $3 million-plus renovation. On Wednesday, the Governor and Council approved the first of two contracts, authorizing $392,140 for stone masonry repairs to the fire tower built in 1912. On Aug. 30, they will be asked to approve another contract for the main building. Pro-Point Restoration of Durham was selected for the fire tower contract. It will remove and repoint all existing mortar on the stone fire tower. Of the total amount, $300,000 will come from American Rescue Plan Act federal stimulus funding set aside as grants for New Hampshire’s historic sites and $92,140 from the state conservation moose plate fund.
