Christopher Degreenia wants a new lawyer and Judge Michael R. Kainen approved it on Tuesday. Degreenia has been charged with felony possession of stolen property and a habitual offender charge and he faces a possible life of imprisonment. Degreenia said in his motion that “I would like the court to dismiss my current counsel Dan Maguire based upon irreconcilable differences.” Judge Kainen then approved the motion. “This appears to be the first time Mr. Degreenia is asking for a new lawyer,” said Judge Kainen. “If it becomes a habit, eventually, it may be that you’re representing yourself because we won’t be going through lawyers. Mr. Maguire’s a good lawyer but things aren’t working out between the two of you. Not everybody gets along with everybody…There’s usually some delay because a new lawyer will have to get up to speed. But we’ll assign you new counsel as soon as we can and hopefully that person will get in touch with you shortly.” Degreenia is currently being held at Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport.
