A Newport man is accused of setting three fires to camps
A Newport man is accused of setting three fires to camps in Coventry, Avery’s Gore and Coventry over a three-year period from August 2019 to May 2022. Two of the fires occurred on or about August 25, 2019, at 2457 Gore Road, Avery’s Gore; and 4874 Gore Road, Avery’s Gore. These fires were seasonal camps. The third fire occurred May 21, 2022, at 1717 Webster Rd in Coventry. This fire was a single-family home and camper. The Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit investigated the fires, all three of which were considered suspicious. During a lengthy investigation, police collected and analyzed evidence, and conducted interviews. Following the investigation, police charged James Teixeira, 39, of Newport with intentionally setting the fires. Teixeira is cited into Vermont Superior Court, Essex Criminal Division, on May 21 to answer three counts of arson.
