A Massachusetts woman was rescued over the weekend
FRANCONIA NOTCH — A Massachusetts woman was rescued over the weekend after being injured on the Franconia Ridge Trail. According to a Fish and Game statement, Anna Meier, 33, of Boston, set out at 8 a.m. Saturday to hike the nine-mile Falling Waters-Old Bridle Path loop. As Meier descended from Mount Lincoln towards Mount Lafayette, she slipped and suffered a lower leg injury, the statement said. Passing hikers called 911 to report Meier’s condition, and rescue crews were summoned at 1:45 p.m. However, conservation officers and members of the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team were slowed by traffic on Interstate 93 North and did not begin the rescue until 3 p.m. A crew from the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Greenleaf Hut got Meier to a sheltered place and put her into a sleeping bag until rescuers arrived at 6 p.m. The team of 25 rescuers carried Meier 4.2 miles to the trailhead, arriving there at around 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
