A horse and the occupant of a buggy it was pulling were hurt
A horse and the occupant of a buggy it was pulling were hurt in a crash along Rt. 100 in Troy on Tuesday, Vermont State Police reported. An investigation by Sgt. Abigail Drew determined that a few minutes before 6 p.m. on Tuesday Jonathan Couture, 22, of Troy, was driving south in a 2014 Ford truck that struck a horse-drawn buggy, also going south. The buggy was occupied by Elias Stoltzfus, 19, of Newport Center. Stoltzfus suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Drew noted, and the horse suffered minor injuries “but is believed to be fine.” The buggy is a total loss. Stoltzfus was taken to North Country Hospital for treatment. Sgt. Drew reported that the crash is still under investigation, but it’s likely the setting sun was a contributing factor.
