A former Newport man remained in critical condition Monday
COLCHESTER — A former Newport man remained in critical condition Monday, one day after he was shot several times by an unknown assailant in Colchester, police said. Dontay Canada, 41, now of Burlington, received multiple gunshot wounds, including to an arm and a leg, outside a residence at the Old Fort Ethan Allen off Vermont 15 shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, police said. Colchester Rescue and St. Michael’s College Fire and Rescue treated Canada for life-threatening injuries inside a residence where he was moved after the shooting, officials said. Police said he remained in critical condition at UVM Medical Center on Monday. No arrests have been made, Acting Police Chief Peter Hull said Monday.
