A $700 million settlement has been reached to resolve allegations
MANCHESTER, N.H. — A $700 million settlement has been reached to resolve allegations related to Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder. The lawsuit, joined by 43 state attorneys general, including New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella, was filed over concerns that talc in the products could be linked to a higher risk of cancer. The consent judgment filed in the lawsuit addresses allegations that Johnson & Johnson deceptively promoted and misled customers in its advertisements when it came to the safety of some of its products. Johnson & Johnson has agreed to stop the manufacture and sale of its baby powder and body powder products that contain talc in the United States. Last year, the company also agreed to pay $8.9 billion over 25 years to settle all current and future claims that the powders caused cancer. Johnson & Johnson has also ended its global sale of the products.
