Revolutionary War Veteran George Howland Honored in Sugar Hill

SUGAR HILL — George Howland was a pioneer who helped form a North Country community and a patriot in his young nation’s fight for independence Howland, a Revolutionary War veteran who is credited with the name of the town that two centuries later would break away from Lisbon to become Sugar Hill, was honored during a grave-marking dedication and America 250 commemorative event on Wednesday at the Sunnyside Cemetery.

Leading the charge for his recognition was Katherine Adamo, Howland’s direct descendant and sixth great-granddaughter from Port Charlotte, Florida, who spent more than a decade conducting the research that culminated in the grave marking.
