North Country and Orleans Central Discuss Regional School Collaboration

Representatives from North Country Supervisory Union and Orleans Central Supervisory Union began discussing whether the two education systems could work together on facility needs, particularly a new regional high school and career and technical education center.

The discussion took place Sept. 8 at a meeting of the North Country Union High School and North Country Career Center Building Committee, which welcomed representatives from Lake Region High School and OCSU to Newport to discuss shared challenges and potential opportunities.

Both supervisory unions have spent years studying their aging facilities and evaluating long-term options. The possibility of significant state construction aid under Vermont’s recently enacted Act 170 has created new incentives for districts to consider collaboration and consolidation.
