ST. JOHNSBURY — A wanted man twice tried to flee police on Wednesday evening resulting in his capture and additional criminal charges.
Elijah Martinez, 26, who has been staying in St. Johnsbury but is from Florida, appeared in court for arraignment in Caledonia Superior Court on Thursday via video from the Northeast Correctional Complex, where he pleaded not guilty to charges including resisting arrest and attempted escape.
Martinez was supposed to be in court on Monday for arraignment on a simple assault charge in which he is accused of punching Donald Dresser, 46, in the side of the head at the Eastern Avenue apartment building in which they both reside.
Martinez failed to appear in court, and a $200 arrest warrant was issued.
