Debate Reignites Over Waterfords Declaration of Inclusion at Select Board Meeting

WATERFORD — A long-simmering controversy over the removal of Waterford’s Declaration of Inclusion (DOI) resurfaced at Monday’s Select Board meeting, with residents and board members clashing over whether to reinstate the diversity statement on the town’s website. Resident Robin Migdelany delivered a sharply worded statement during public comment, urging the board to repost the declaration, which the Select Board unanimously adopted in July 2024. The statement condemns discrimination and affirms the town’s commitment to welcoming people of all backgrounds. While the declaration remains official town policy, it was taken off the website earlier this year amid concerns that it could jeopardize Waterford’s eligibility for federal grants under the Presidents executive orders.
