The police department will soon deploy a new laser drug testing device

LITTLETON — The police department will soon deploy a new laser drug testing device that reportedly can scan suspected narcotics on the spot and lead to instant probable cause and arrest if there’s a hit, instead of having to send the substance to the state lab and wait months for results.During their meeting on Monday, the Select Board voted 3-0 to accept and expend a $42,564 unanticipated grant from the Grafton County opioid abatement special revenue fund to pay for the TruNarc handheld analyzer system. Grafton County was awarded more than $800,000 from the state’s opioid abatement fund, which was created from the settlement to New Hampshire that pharmaceutical companies and opioid manufacturers and distributors had to pay for their part in creating the nation’s opioid crisis.
