The question of whether to permit ATVs will not be put to a vote
WATERFORD — The question of whether to permit all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on town-maintained roads will not be put to a vote. Despite the wishes of Town Meeting earlier this year, the Select Board on Monday decided against placing the question on the 2025 warrant. The board will instead hold a public hearing at Waterford School on Jan. 27 to discuss how to amend the existing ordinance, which currently restricts ATVs to non-maintained Class IV roads. The decision was made based on the advice of the Vermont League of Cities and Towns (VLCT), which pointed out that state law gives the Select Board sole authority over such matters.
