A woman whose former Hastings Hill apartment was the scene of a drug-related murder
ST. JOHNSBURY — A woman whose former Hastings Hill apartment was the scene of a drug-related murder nearly two years ago pleaded guilty on Monday to possessing $2,749 worth of stolen power tools that she was trying to sell via social media. Darlene Gilchrist, 36, was not sentenced on Monday as the prosecution and defense haven’t agreed to a penalty for her felony offense. Deputy State’s Attorney Tom Paul has offered a zero—to three-year sentence with probation. Gilchrist’s attorney, Daniel Maguire, said there’s a chance he might be pushing for a deferred sentence, which means that if Gilchrist behaves for a period of time, the criminal offense would be wiped from her record. The maximum penalty for felony-level possession of stolen property is ten years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
