Vermont State Police have confirmed that human remains found on Sunday belong to a missing Enosburgh woman
ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State Police have confirmed that human remains found on Sunday belong to a missing Enosburgh woman and they have confirmed it is a homicide investigation. The medical examiner’s office on Monday confirmed the identity of Roberta Martin, 82, but police say the cause and manner of death are still pending. Martin was reported missing Wednesday after concern from family members and neighbors. Troopers and members of the community spent three days looking for her in and around the area where she was last seen at her house on Butternut Hollow Road in Enosburgh. Police say Darren Martell, 23, of St. Albans, is a person of interest in the investigation. They say Martell was located Monday in a wooded area near St. Albans Town School. When detectives tried to approach him, they say they found him masturbating near a public walking path. He ran into the woods when approached by detectives and the school went into lockdown. Martell was eventually located and arrested on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct. He is due in court on Tuesday.
