An octogenarian survived a glider crash over the weekend.
BENTON, N.H. — An octogenarian survived a glider crash over the weekend. According to New Hampshire Fish and Game, 84-year-old Henry Swayze of Turnbridge, Vt., plummeted into the White Mountain National Forest area at around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday. The glider came to rest 20 feet off the ground, suspended in a tree, and Swayze spent another two-and-a-half hours in the cockpit until rescuers arrived and lowered him down, authorities said. He was unharmed. Swayze texted 911 to request assistance and officials from multiple departments — Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Service, Haverhill Fire, Hanover Fire and Lebanon Fire — responded to the scene off of Long Pond Road. Rescuers took a U.S. Forest Service Road to within a half-mile of the crash site and reached Swayze at around 7 p.m.
