Judge Michael R. Kainen dismissed the Lonnie Abbott trial on Tuesday
Judge Michael R. Kainen dismissed the Lonnie Abbott trial on Tuesday. The trial, which was scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday, was based on a drone, a beer and a gun. Defense Attorney Brandon R. Sheffert stood at the defense table and spoke about a motion that the gun was not loaded and wanted to dismiss the case. And Judge Kainen granted the motion. The weapon turned out to be a CO2-powered BB gun, according to court documents. The state had dismissed a misdemeanor charge of criminal threatening, before the trial, and was focused on the misdemeanor reckless endangerment charge. Abbott was charged for pointing a gun at two people following the crash of a beer-hauling drone at the Mt. Pleasant Mobile Home Park in St. Johnsbury. Vermont State Police say they were dispatched to 37 Avenue C at 4:37 p.m. and spoke to the alleged victims in the case, John Matthews, 52, and his son Kyle Matthews, 29. The incident occurred on May, 1, 2022.
