A short supply of volunteers has ended a volunteer-run effort
A short supply of volunteers has ended a volunteer-run effort born in Bethlehem and formed seven years ago to help seniors age in their homes and communities. “It was a great journey,” Kay Kerr said of Organized Acts of Kindness for Seniors (OAKS), a nonprofit she founded in 2017 to partner with local physicians and organizations to provide services to keep the region’s seniors healthy, active, independent, and safe. The program was created by seniors for seniors, who were both the volunteers and the member recipients. OAKS was inspired by a book called “Being Mortal” and was based on a national “village to village” movement highlighted in the book. In addition to Bethlehem, OAKS served seniors in Littleton, Franconia, Sugar Hill, Easton, and Whitefield. Kerr thanked those who volunteered as well as the donors.
