Skiers and riders were safely evacuated
BURKE MOUNTAIN — Skiers and riders were safely evacuated from a malfunctioning chairlift on Wednesday. Kevin Mack, general manager at Burke Mountain Resort, said 53 people on the Sherburne Express quad lift needed to be evacuated by mountain personnel. There were no injuries, and the evacuation went as “smooth” as possible, he said. Some lift issues don’t require full evacuations, Mack said, as backup power can keep the lift moving, but that was not the case on Wednesday. Many mountain workers were involved in the evacuation with members of ski patrol directing multiple teams in a process that lasted about one hour and 40 minutes, Mack said.
