Work is nearing on the new Riverfront Commons
LITTLETON — Work is nearing on the new Riverfront Commons and on the major upgrades to the Dells Dam, which could now include swapping the vehicular bridge with a new pedestrian bridge. At the 2023 town meeting, voters approved $602,000 to improve the 132-year-old Dells Dam, which for 16 years has been out of safety compliance with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, which requires the town to take action to prevent the flooding of downstream properties. After being presented with several options during a public hearing in November 2022, residents and members of the Select Board said they want to keep Dells Pond and not remove, but rehabilitate the dam and repair the existing spillway, which is in the Dells Pond Conservation Area and is overseen by the Littleton Conservation Commission.
